Tyree Transformers is passionate about innovation and always finding a better way. The company and its people take reliability, customer service and product value-for-money to a new level in the transformer industry supporting power utilities, industry, power transmission, renewable energy generation and storage.
Founder Sir William Tyree transformed the Australian Engineering, manufacturing and power industry, receiving a knighthood in 1975 for his contribution to the engineering industry and his extensive philanthropic works.
The Tyree Group established operations at Braemar near Mittagong in regional NSW in 1978 and today Tyree Transformers continues to operate on this site in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Chosen as the location due to the owners love of the area, the lower operational costs, strong logistics, quality of life for its employees and the scale of their operation, they’d encourage other businesses to set up in regional NSW.
Tyree Transformers has four workshops in Braemar, with over 20,000 square metres of floorspace on 30 acres of land, dedicated to the following manufacturing activities:
- pole mount transformer manufacture
- large distribution transformer manufacture
- power transformer manufacture
- substation assembly
- metal fabrication and painting.
Casey Evans, Marketing Manager for Tyree Transformers, elaborated on the benefits of being based regionally, “Reasons to invest in the South East and Tablelands region include the growing infrastructure and connectivity, proximity to major markets, regional resilience and the environmental and renewable energy potential”.
The Tyree Group has continued to grow in the region and today employs more than 550 people across Australia and New Zealand. With over 390 dedicated employees based in the Southern Highlands, Tyree Transformers believe they have the right mix of employees to power their manufacturing, with professional engineers, tradesman, highly skilled production workers and management filled with industry experts.
Keian Barnard, Managing Director Tyree Group of Companies, highlights the benefits of having regional employees, “The benefit of operating in regional NSW is really the people. It’s the can do attitude, the community and the unique approach to problem solving that we really value.”
