Hydrogen Hubs

Hydrogen Hubs will provide groups of hydrogen users with common infrastructure, enabling the local production, use and distribution of this clean energy source of the future.

Incentives for businesses setting up and expanding in Hydrogen Hubs include exemptions from government and electricity network charges and a hydrogen refuelling station network to be rolled out across the state. 

By 2030, NSW aims to produce 110,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per annum from 700 MW of electrolyser capacity for under $2.80 per kg. Key government initiatives to achieve these goals include: 

Policy support to fast-track industry ecosystems across the hydrogen value chain, including:

• State-wide strategic hydrogen infrastructure masterplan
• Upfront strategic planning and port infrastructure assessments
• Hydrogen-ready regulatory frameworks
• Skills development
• Hydrogen innovation

Private-sector investment in infrastructure to unlock supply chains and demonstrate technology, including:

• Hydrogen hubs
• Hydrogen refuelling network
• Clean manufacturing precincts
• Australia’s first green hydrogen and gas power plant

Economy-wide incentives to significantly reduce the cost of producing hydrogen and close the commercial gap between hydrogen and incumbent fuels, including:

• Network cost concessions
• Scheme exemptions
