More than 100 successful years doing business in regional NSW
Nestlé, the world’s largest food and beverage company, has operated in regional NSW for more than 100 years and has manufacturing sites at Smithtown in the Macleay Valley, and Blayney in the central west.
The Smithtown factory was originally a milk processing plant taken over by Nestlé in 1921. In 1934 it became the birthplace of Milo and has been home to Aussies’ favourite choc-malt drink ever since.
About 200 people currently work at the factory, producing Milo, Nesquik and Nestlé Malted Milk, as well as an extensive range of Nescafé coffee mixes sold in Australia and overseas.
More than $50 million has been invested in the Smithtown factory in the past 10 years, with an additional $77 million investment under way to support future production.
The Nestlé Purina Blayney factory opened in 1989 and produces leading wet and dry pet foods, such as Proplan, Supercoat, Felix, Fancy Feast and Purina One. The factory employs more than 280 people and supports more than 60 local businesses and contractors in western NSW, with a focus on sourcing ingredients locally.
More than $200 million has been invested in the site the past 10 years. In 2022, a $101 million upgrade was undertaken to increase production capacity and export growth.
Michael Kane, Director Technical and Production, Nestlé Oceania says:
“Nestlé has a history of more than 100 years of doing business in regional NSW. Regional NSW offers us reach into key eastern states markets, access to the agricultural ingredients we need and a stable workforce. Regional NSW also offers our employees access to a great lifestyle, where they can be part of strong local communities and have an impact in the communities in which they work and live.”
