Dubbo Project will solve the challenges of the future, and support regional communities
Australian Strategic Materials Ltd (ASM) is building a global rare earths and critical minerals business to provide the high-tech metals needed to solve the challenges of today and the future.
ASM’s Dubbo Project is the company’s cornerstone rare earths and critical minerals mining and processing project.
The Dubbo Project is being developed to produce oxides and mixed chlorides of rare earths, zirconium, niobium and hafnium. Working in partnership with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), significant successful test work has been completed to develop an advanced flowsheet and optimise oxide recoveries.
In 2023, Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd (HEC) began EPC definition activities, which will further progress the project toward a final investment decision. ASM is also securing offtake, financing and strategic partner agreements.
When the Dubbo Project is constructed, the products will be metallised at ASM’s metals plants, the first of which is in Ochang, Korea.
Rowena Smith, CEO of Australian Strategic Materials commented, “We are fortunate the Dubbo Project is in NSW, which has a wonderful resource endowment, supported by excellent infrastructure, a highly skilled workforce and world-class research institutions. The opportunity here is not just to mine that material – but to add value all the way down the supply chain and back into regional communities.”
