Planet Lighting, a team of 50 employees from Bellingen in regional NSW, was chosen to illuminate the Olympic ramps and village pathways for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The team manufactured 1800 LED light fixtures, known as pucks, in Australia and shipped the red and amber lights from New South Wales all the way to Paris, where they were installed in the village and along the helical ramp-a symbolic focal point for the athletes. The impressive display of LED pucks is individually wired, and each represent an Olympic medal-winning athlete. Now that the games are over, fans can scan the attached QR code to review the medallist’s biography.
This world-first fusion of memory, light, and technology immortalises athletes in a legacy of light and is now a permanent fixture in Paris. Planet Lighting attributes its success to its partnership with local suppliers and dedicated overseas distributors, which were instrumental in their journey to the global stage. The company hopes to maintain its association with the Olympics at the games in 2032 in Brisbane.
