Kongsberg Defence Australia has officially broken ground on its new Missile Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility in regional New South Wales.
Located at the Astra Aerolab Business Park adjacent to RAAF Base Williamtown in the Hunter, the state-of-the-art facility will manufacture and maintain its Naval Strike Missile and Joint Strike Missile, both being acquired by the Australian Defence Force.
Construction, with a completion date of mid-2026, will create more than 500 jobs in the Hunter region and inject $100 million in economic benefits, as well as create opportunities for local Australian suppliers to support the supply chain.
Earlier this year The Australian Government announced it would contribute up to $850 million in partnership with Kongsberg Defence Australia to build the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
The factory will be one of only two facilities in the world capable of producing Naval Strike Missile and Joint Strike Missile with the other site in Kongsberg, Norway.
This significant investment, based at the Astra Aerolab Precinct at Newcastle Airport, marks a major milestone for the local defence manufacturing sector.
The project was supported by the specialist Regional Economic Development team, which provides targeted advice and assistance to help businesses establish, grow, and prosper. If your business is interested in exploring opportunities to establish in regional NSW, contact us here.
